My name is Shamash, and like many of you, I've struggled with stress and anxiety. My days were once overshadowed by constant tension, and I couldn’t understand why. That all changed when I discovered the transformative power of breathing.
I noticed my breath was often rapid and shallow, especially during stressful situations like public speaking or meeting tight deadlines. Mindfulness alone didn't seem to help in these high-stress moments.
I also noticed other signs of poor breathing. I woke up with a dry mouth and had less energy. I breathed through my mouth while walking briskly or running, which isn't healthy or normal.
The revelation came when I realised these poor breathing habits were amplifying my anxiety, not alleviating it. As I learned about proper breathing techniques, I found I could turn moments of panic into moments of peace.
This led me to wonder: could our modern issues with stress, anxiety, and burnout be compounded by poor breathing techniques?
Ancient wisdom emphasised the importance of correct breathing, but this knowledge has been lost in our modern world. Now, it's making a comeback.
Today, I continue to develop my breathing skills. I can now give talks and lectures with better control of my breath and mind—something I once thought impossible.
